Speak to usElimu Pesa was born out of the desire to see that no African child/learner fails to attend school due to lack of school fees or scholastic materials and that education in Africa is improved to meet current and future global demands.
Africa remains the poorest continent in the world. The few privileged wealthy people in Africa always want their children to study and live in abroad. The smart ones in Africa are always working hard towards getting scholarship abroad to study, once they do that they remain abroad and never return home to make any impact on their home country with the knowledge they obtained through studying abroad. You don’t need to be a misfortune teller to tell that if something is not done about this, the most important resources of every nation, human resource, is going to get exponentially depleted in Africa during the coming days.
Teaching in Africa is one of the most underpaid occupations in Africa. Know very well that almost every job in Africa is an underpaid occupation. That makes teaching the worst of the worst. In view of this, most smart people in Africa who could really make an impact in Africa’s future leaders by teaching them whilst they are young would rather strive for other relatively well paid occupations. And if for any reason the ‘smart’ and highly gifted African ends up being a teaching, the person would rather direct his/her energy and passion towards searching really hard for well-paying occupations.
The situation here in Africa is worse than I am portraying and it is going to get worse in the foreseeable near future if nothing is done about this
When it comes to lending and borrowing money, banks have long been at the center of the equation. However, with the proliferation of new information technologies, mobile devices and the good old Web, new methods of borrowing and lending have emerged that are slowly toppling the bank-centric model. The best and most promising example is peer-to-peer lending, which leverages technology to directly match those who need money with those who have money to invest, while cutting out the middle man.
By enabling the efficient flow of capital across international boundaries and wealth divisions, and by allowing lenders to connect with and send money directly to borrowers, peer-to-peer micro-lending has the ability to have an enormous impact — on a global scale. However, while a handful of organizations and institutions have attempted it, direct P2P lending across international wealth divides has never been done before at scale, says Linus Wamanya and Elimu pesa team, slowing developing a micro-finance model that could work at scale — through good old-fashioned trial and error.
